08 May Hills Pet Nutrition: New Wet Food Facility
ECA has completed several new construction projects in the Food & Beverage market, but none more interesting than the canned food facility built for Hills Pet Nutrition, completed in Tonganoxie, KS in the fall of 2023. ECA was responsible for field wiring of all process-related equipment, and the automation system for operations and management information. The facility has 365,000 square feet, and makes use of leading-edge automation, robotics, and AI to produce 170 varieties of wet food, with industry-leading monitoring and safety. Cooking, mixing, and container filling are performed on site.
This plant is designed not just with process efficiency in mind, it also achieved LEED Gold certification. Among other unique design elements, it reclaims water on site, treats and recycles as much as possible for future use.
Beyond construction of the process, ECA has also been awarded a 3-year contract to provide field service and preventive maintenance testing, to help Hills maximize the use of this high-tech facility.
